Cake Decorating

Yesterday was our first day of cake decorating class. The class is only a four week course. We signed up through campus craft and floral a few weeks ago. It's a very small class and Andrew is the only male. I'm really impressed with what a good sport he's been. The class yesterday was a lot of fun! We learned about decorating tools and making butter cream frosting. Apparently we need to vary the consistency of the frosting (stiff, medium, thin) for different decorating jobs. Our instructor also brought a spice cake that she'd made and took us through leveling it, torting it, and finally frosting it. Then we got to eat it... Yum!

Andrew probably won't like me saying this, but he seemed to have fun. He got very excited about being able to eat our finished products and also how we are going to design our cakes for next class. He wants to frost the cake and make it camouflage with an army man design on top. I hate to have to tell him that this is course 1 and we're going to be lucky if our Happy Birthday writing even turns out. At least he's being creative.

Willow forgot to tell you that last night after the class, she grabbed my piece of cake and ran out of the Wilkinson Center with it, all while screaming "Its Mine!! All Mine!!" I can't believe she forgot this little detail, because when I was running after her trying to calm her down (we were going to share the piece anyway) I almost got ran over by a truck! Oh well....

Okay, now for the truth. When we were walking out to the car I was eating our piece of cake when she wasn't looking. When she looked at me and asked if I liked the cake, I said "what? I'm waiting to share it with you. I don't know." I tried to hide that I had been eating it. Unfortunatly I had frosting all over my face, its really hard to eat cake while walking.

An old french proverb says that "a cake eaten in peace, is worth two in trouble." Hmmmm...I don't know what that means, but if you think about it long enough it may make you stop craving cake. Anyway, next week you'll each lose a point if you eat your cake on Tuesday and I'll be WINNING.
